When is Chiefs vs. Ravens AFC Championship game? Updated TV channel, time, injury report, weather forecast and more

The AFC championship game is here and, surprise, surprise – the Chiefs made it again. This is the sixth consecutive conference title appearance for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, and this time they’ll take on the top-seeded Ravens.

Kansas City’s path was perhaps its toughest in the Reid era. The Chiefs finished with their worst conference seed since 2017 and their worst offensive output since 2016. They also had to go on the road in the AFC playoffs for the first time in Mahomes’ career. And yet, they survived in a tight 27-24 win over the Bills at Highmark Stadium and will play for a fourth Super Bowl appearance this weekend.

Baltimore will be the fifth different team to take on Kansas City in the AFC title game since 2018, but they might be the toughest. The Ravens trounced the Houston Texans this weekend, 34-10, behind another MVP-worthy performance by quarterback Lamar Jackson and a suffocating defense.

Mahomes and Chiefs are 3-1 against Jackson and the Ravens since 2018, but lost the most recent matchup in 2021. Jackson scored two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter of a Week 2 game to erase Kansas City’s 11-point lead as Baltimore took the one-point win. The Chiefs went on to lose in the AFC title game that year to the Bengals, while the Ravens didn’t make the playoffs.

Both squads are very different from teams now, though, for better and for worse. Jackson ascended higher than his 2019 MVP campaign and finished the 2023 regular season with career-bests in completion percentage and passing yards. He also led the NFL in rushing yards per carry with 5.5.

Baltimore’s defense is more impressive, though, after it allowed just 16.5 points per game (fewest in the NFL) and the fewest yards per played allowed (4.6, tied with two other teams). The Ravens also rank first in sacks (60) and takeaways (31).

The Chiefs’ defense has been its strong point – a first for Reid in Kansas City. They’re not nearly as daunting as Baltimore but have nevertheless been huge in Kansas City’s Super Bowl hunt after finishing just behind the Ravens in points allowed and yards per play allowed with 17.3 and 4.7, respectively. Mahomes is still Mahomes, too: He finished sixth in passing yards, seventh in completion percentage and eighth in passing touchdowns this year despite no clear No. 2 pass-catcher sides tight end Travis Kelce.
