Where is Jared Goff from? Hometown, college & more to know about Lions quarterback’s California roots

Jared Goff is knocking on the door of his second Super Bowl appearance. But he wasn’t always a highly-touted quarterback prospect.

The 29-year-old, who went to the Rams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, is a three-time Pro Bowler who has the Lions on the brink of history.

Before Goff attempts to lead Detroit to its first Super Bowl appearance, though, get to know where he came from and his path to the NFL.

Where is Jared Goff from?

Born on Oct. 14, 1994, Goff is from Novato, Calif., and attended Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, Calif. Growing up a 49ers fan, Goff wears the No. 16 in honor of the great Joe Montana.

Listed with NFL size at 6-4, Goff didn’t exit high school as a bonafide five-star recruit.

He threw for 7,687 yards and 93 touchdowns over three varsity seasons, enough to make him a four-star recruit. He ranked No. 218 overall and the No. 15 among pro-style quarterbacks in the class of 2013, according to 247Sports.

Where did Jared Goff go to college?

Goff had just three Division I offers, passing on Boise State and Washington to attend the University of California, Berkley.

Once he got to college, though he needed just three seasons to prove he was NFL-ready.

Goff broke nearly every Cal passing record as a three-year starter for the Golden Bears, throwing for 12,195 yards and 96 touchdowns. As a junior, he led the Pac-12 with 4,714 passing yards and 43 passing touchdowns, which were also good for third-best in the entire NCAA.

He elected to turn pro after that dominant season, and Los Angeles selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
