WWE Royal Rumble 2024 predictions, betting odds and expert picks for men’s and women’s match

The road to WrestleMania 40 makes a pitstop in Tampa, Florida, as the Royal Rumble takes place today at Tropicana Field. The event airs on Peacock in the U.S. and the WWE Network worldwide.

Created by Pat Patterson, the Royal Rumble event and match has been a tradition since 1988. There will be a men’s and women’s match, with 30 participants in each contest. The last person standing in both Rumble matches earns an opportunity at a championship of their choice at WrestleMania in April.

Who will be the last one standing and pointing at the WrestleMania sign? Are there choices obvious, or will WWE surprise fans with an unlikely winner?

2024 Men’s Royal Rumble prediction

It was discussed the winner of last year’s Royal Rumble had to beat Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. Cody Rhodes won the Rumble but didn’t get the job done. Can “The American Nightmare” finally win gold if given a second chance?

The top five options will likely win the Royal Rumble match for various reasons.

Starting on the low end of the Rumble predictions, Drew McIntyre winning could indicate if he re-signed with WWE. It is unlikely he will win the match, given his contract status and the lack of story to tell against Reigns and Seth “Freakin’” Rollins, men he has already lost against for gold.

Gunther is in an interesting spot here. The longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time was favored to win the men’s match via Sports Illustrated. The report came after Gunther told Rollins he was coming for him on the last Raw before the Royal Rumble. SI later retracted the statement following some confusion within the wrestling industry, stating they were given a “deliberate attempt at misinformation.” Gunther winning would still make sense, given the dominant push within the company.

However, the top two picks to win the Royal Rumble match are Rhodes and CM Punk, who engaged in a war of words before the event. Rhodes is looking to win back-to-back Rumble matches for the first time since “Stone Cold” Steve Austin did it in 1997 and 1998. Momentum is on his side, and Rhodes looks to “finish the story” against Reigns at WrestleMania.

Out of the two, Punk is the likely winner of the match. It is his first Rumble match since 2014, and he has had nonstop support since being let go by AEW in 2023. Punk and Rollins already have history, and a quick ascend to the top of the mountain would be the perfect story for Punk’s comeback in WWE.

MORE: What is The Rock’s status for the Royal Rumble?

Still, we can’t forget about The Rock. The former champion and current movie star recently returned to WWE and teased facing Reigns at WrestleMania. It is a match many have expected to happen for years. Rumors are swirling he will be the one to face Reigns and not Rhodes or Punk, but nothing is confirmed. The Rock would be a close second pick to win the match, but Punk should win.

Sporting News prediction: CM Punk

  • Nia Jax (+800)
  • Raquel Rodriguez (+900)
  • Bianca Belair (+1000)
  • Mercedes Mone/Sasha Banks (+1200)
  • Liv Morgan (+1400)
  • Asuka (+1600)
  • Shayna Baszler (+2500)

2024 Women’s Royal Rumble prediction

It is an interesting time within WWE’s women’s division as Charlotte Flair tore her ACL, MCL, and meniscus, and Rhea Ripley continues to dominate the scene as champion. Iyo Sky is also a champion but is involved in Damage CTRL’s side stories. Still, there are various possibilities in this match.

Mercedes Mone (the former Sasha Banks) has not signed with either AEW or WWE. Regarding WWE, her last act in the company was dropping the women’s tag team titles and walking out with Naomi/Trinity. Mone hasn’t appeared in a ring since suffering an ankle injury against Willow Nightingale in May 2023. Teasing appearances on social media, Mone rejoining WWE would be a huge move by the company.

Per The Wrestling Observer, Mone will join AEW. However, anything is possible in wrestling, and this will be something to monitor.

Moving up the list, Bianca Belair doesn’t have a current story with the champions and is a former Royal Rumble match winner. Raquel Rodriguez is currently dealing with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, and her status for the event is unknown. Nia Jax just completed a story where she hurt Ripley, who has been near-unstoppable. However, she will likely continue her role of dominating the match before a wild elimination happens.

Jade Cargill hasn’t wrestled a WWE match yet, and it is unlikely WWE will push her straight to the top. However, an appearance and a push seem likely.

Becky Lynch has the best shot at repeating in the Rumble this year, as she already confronted Ripley regarding a match at WrestleMania. However, she could earn the opportunity through the Elimination Chamber match. The likely winner will be Bayley, who is already involved in a story with her Damage CTRL teammate in Sky. Bayley has yet to win a Rumble match, and there is teased tension within her group. The leader on the sidelines, Bayley could have a breakout moment in Tampa and secure her first headline match at WrestleMania.

Sporting News prediction: Bayley
