Grammys viewership 2024: Kansas City rated top TV market with help of Taylor Swift, Chiefs fans

Even without Travis Kelce present, Kansas City still tuned into the Grammys to watch their beloved Taylor Swift.

The superstar attended the awards show solo, as her boyfriend was preoccupied with Super Bowl prep. Still, she stood out as the talk of the town, even without her guy on the Chiefs.

Grammys viewership increased by 86% in Kansas City compared to last year as the most famous Chiefs fan took home the biggest award of the night.

Swift went into the night with six award nominations, and rumors swirled Sunday that she would announce the release of “Reputation (Taylor’s Version).” But she had something even bigger in store. When she accepted the award for Pop Vocal Album of the Year for “Midnights,” Swift announced a brand new album to be released in April.

The 34-year-old singer later made history with her second award of the night, Album of the Year, as she became the first artist to win four Grammys in that category. And few areas were as excited as her adopted town of Kansas City.

During the NFL season, Swift brought in record viewership numbers with her attendance at games. Chiefs fans returned the favor, posting a 13.6 TV rating for the Grammys β€” up 86% from last year’s show, per sports media reporter John Ourand.

While there’s no proof of a direct correlation between Chiefs fans and the Grammys viewership, it would make sense that they turned out for the newest Kansas City sweetheart.

The Grammys drew an average of 16.9 million viewers Sunday night, a 34% increase from last year’s show and the Academy’s best numbers since 2020.
