Zay Flowers allegations, explained

Flowers is currently under investigation by police in both Baltimore County and Acton, Mass., for an incident that took place on Jan. 21, one week before the AFC championship against the Chiefs, according to the Baltimore Banner. The Ravens topped the Texans in the divisional round of the playoffs on Jan. 20.

CBS News reported the alleged incident happened in Owings Mills, Md., which is a suburb of Baltimore. Flowers has reportedly not been charged with anything in what is listed as an ongoing investigation.

“We take these matters seriously and will have no further comment at this time,” the Ravens said in a statement to CBS News. Flowers’ agent reportedly did not return messages requesting comment from the Banner.

There has been no report released by Acton Police, which reportedly referenced state laws involving keeping communications between police and victims of domestic violence or sexual assault confidential, per the Banner. The police did acknowledge there was an incident in Baltimore County in January that involved Flowers. Baltimore County police also similarly acknowledged the alleged assault, but it said it would not release further information.

As noted by the Banner, the Ravens have a zero-tolerance policy regarding players accused of domestic violence since former Baltimore running back Ray Rice was arrested and charged with assaulting his fiancee in 2014, an incident that ultimately ended his career.
