Top 12 best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing: Mythical rankings starring Crawford, Inoue, Teofimo Lopez

Thursday’s (Feb. 9 , 2024) fight between WBO and Ring Magazine super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez and challenger Jamaine Ortiz was bad. And that’s underselling it.

Brooklyn-born boxer-puncher Lopez pursued the target for 12 rounds and landed little of consequence. Ortiz, who was having his first fight at 140 pounds, avoided contact for most of the fight by running away.

It was dreadful to watch, and the Las Vegas crowd booed incessantly during and after their ordeal. The 26-year-old Lopez retained his titles via unanimous decision and impressed no one.

As a consequence, “The Takeover” drops a spot on the pound-for-pound list, swapping places with unified light heavyweight king Artur Beterbiev, who looked lethal in dismantling Callum Smith last month.

The Sporting News now takes a look at the Top-12 best pound-for-pound fighters in the world today:

The best in the world pound-for-pound: Terence Crawford

Terence “Bud” Crawford is a three-weight world champion (lightweight, super lightweight and welterweight) and a first-ballot Hall of Famer. And the good news for fight fans is there’s more to come from the switch-hitting genius who finally earned his flowers in July when he destroyed Errol Spence in Las Vegas.

The ninth-round TKO over Spence added Crawford to the list of all-time great welterweights which includes Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns and Felix Trinidad. The Omaha native’s performance level in the bout was mesmerizing and even the most ardent of Crawford critics were forced to eat their words.

Other signature wins for the unbeaten champ include Ricky Burns, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Viktor Postol, Amir Khan, Kell Brook and Shawn Porter.
