Brentford vs Liverpool live score, result, lineups, highlights from Premier League match

Liverpool held a 1-0 lead at halftime of their Premier League match against Brentford.

Darwin Nunez’s sublime chipped finish over goalkeeper Mark Flekken after 34 minutes put the visitors in front, the goal coming when Diogo Jota cleverly headed the ball to his strike partner after the home side had sent almost everyone forward for a free-kick inside their own half.

It’s been a mixed outing for Jurgen Klopp and his players, though. Curtis Jones went off early in the half after landing awkwardly, and Jota soon followed, leaving the pitch on a stretcher after colliding with teammate Alexis Mac Allister and Brentford’s Christian Norgaard.

The Reds responded to their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the beginning of February by beating Burnley by the same scoreline a week ago. That meant they entered this matchweek with a two-point lead at the top of the table and, as things stand, they will be five clear come the end of the match.

However, given that City have a game in hand, anything other than a win for Klopp’s men in London will give the reigning champions the chance to move back to the summit if they can claim maximum points at home to Chelsea later.

Brentford started the day only six points outside the relegation zone, so a defeat here will leave them looking over their shoulders.

The reverse fixture at Anfield ended 3-0 to Liverpool in November last year, but Brentford were 3-1 winners in this game at the Gtech Community Stadium last season.
