Daytona 500 lineup: Starting order, pole for 2024 race based on qualifying results

The NASCAR Cup Series season has officially arrived. And that means starting with The Great American Race.

A year ago, the Daytona 500 began the season with a win for Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who will now look to be the first multi-time winner since Denny Hamlin, who won back-to-back races in 2019 and 2020 to add to his 2016 victory.

For the most part, the pre-race has been dominated by Hendrick Motorsports. Dating back to 2015, Hendrick drivers have won the pole position in all but one of the races prior to this year’s edition.

Who will lead the drivers to green on Sunday? Here’s what you need to know.

Who won the Daytona 500 pole for 2024?

Joey Logano will open the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season at the pole position, the first time he has earned pole position in the Daytona 500. He last earned the pole in Daytona in 2019 in the Coke Zero Sugar 400, and he finished 25th. It was his first overall pole since the 2021 Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500.

Logano had the best time of 49.465 with a top speed of 181.947. Michael McDowell was second to Logano with a best speed of 181.686 and top time of 49.536.

The pole position by Logano is the first time Hendrick hasn’t won the Daytona 500 pole position since 2020, when JTG Daugherty Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the pole position. That also snapped a five-year run of pole wins by Hendrick Motorsports.
