Justin Fields trade rumors: Bears WR DJ Moore feels 2024 QB prospects ‘don’t compare’ to current Chicago star

Justin Fields wouldn’t be going anywhere if D.J. Moore had a say in the matter.

One of the biggest decisions of the offseason is soon to be revealed, as the Bears have to choose their quarterback of the future fairly soon. Chicago owns the No. 1 pick in the draft and has a chance at selecting one of the premier prospects at the position, including USC star Caleb Williams.

The wrinkle in the equation is that the Bears still have the young Fields on the roster. What it boils down to is whether the Bears feel it makes more sense to draft a QB and trade their Fields to another club, or to keep Fields and potentially move the 2024 top overall pick.

While the talent at quarterback in this year’s draft is regarded as high-end, Moore doesn’t feel as though any of the available arms are up to Fields’ standard.

“I still don’t think they compare to Justin right now,” Moore said on his NFL Total Access appearance.

Moore has been a long defender of Fields. Back in December, the wide receiver was asked about his thoughts on Chicago’s current QB, and he did not waste the chance to praise Fields.

“He’s a dynamic player, dynamic quarterback,” Moore said. “I mean, we want him here. I’ve been having a great year with him, so that should speak volumes. I just leave what they do (in the front office) upstairs at the end of the day.”

Moore is no stranger to dealing with quarterback turnover. The 26-year-old has been in the league for six seasons, and has dealt with a constant rotating cast of signal callers.

During his years in Carolina, he caught passes from Cam Newton, Kyle Allen, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield. In Chicago, it has been mostly Fields, with a bit of Tyson Bagent sprinkled in. So it’s understandable why the dynamic receiver wants some stability at the position, and what better QB than the one that helped Moore to a career year.

Not only is Fields the kind of quarterback a franchise could potentially still build around, but he has shown a report with Moore. After he was acquired last offseason in a deal with the Panthers, the wide receiver had far and away the best year of his career last season in his first campaign in Chicago. Moore led the team with 96 catches for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns, all career bests.

“The relationship jelled real well from the beginning,” Moore said about the bond with Fields. “Since I got traded, he was in contact, and we started throwing together, so it made the transition into games and everything easy.”

Moore also told NFL Today Access that he has been in talks with Fields, and just met with him in person recently. However, the Bears star WR elected to keep the details of their conversation close to the chest.

With the Scouting Combine just two days away in Indianapolis, a decision in the Windy City is going to be coming soon. We will soon see if the Fields-Moore connection is back for another year in Chicago, or if it is yet another quarterback under center for the talented wide out.
