How did Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift meet? ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast member claims show helped set up romance

The football season may be over, but that doesn’t mean Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift aren’t making headlines.

The relationship between the Chiefs tight end and the international music star has been well documented. It’s what happens when one is arguably the greatest tight end of all-time and the other is a 14-time Grammy award winner who generates billions of dollars while on tour.

However, one part of their love story that has not been told is how exactly the two met — until now.

The couple has not given out any insight yet about how the two crossed paths, but new details on the potential start of the relationship have emerged thanks to an unlikely candidate. Ben Marshall, who is an actor on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” recently dished out some behind-the-scenes information on Kelce and Swift during a recent appearance on comedian Mike Birbiglia’s podcast.

How did Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift meet?

Marshall is one-third of the Please Don’t Destroy comedy group, which includes John Higgins and Martin Herlihy. The three were part of the “SNL” cast when the Chiefs tight end hosted last year. They were also there when Swift made a short video on the show.

“We worked with both Taylor and Travis Kelce before they got together,” Marshall said. “She kind of told us she watched his ‘SNL’ episode and saw him in our video and was like, ‘Oh this guy seems funny.’ [We], a little bit, brought them together.”

Marshall said that the group debated revealing the details during their appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon. However, they voted against it, citing the fact that if Kelce and Swift were to break up, they did not want to somehow be blamed for it.

Until fans hear it from Kelce or Swift themselves, it’s not 100-percent certain that “SNL” is the reason for arguably one of the most popular couples in the United States. However, based on Marshall’s details, the sketch comedy show very well could have been the first step in the two’s new romance.

Travis Kelce ‘SNL’ appearance

Athletes are not often asked to host “Saturday Night Live.” The comedy sketch show has typically brought on actors, singers, comedians, and others who frequent the Hollywood scene.

However, Kelce was blessed with the chance to be the rare athlete to host the show in March of 2023. The tight end got the opportunity after the Chiefs won Super Bowl 57, appearing on the NBC show just three weeks after celebrating the Super Bowl win.

The three-time Super Bowl champion received plenty of praise for his opening monologue. Despite the unfamiliar territory, Kelce appeared calm, cool, and collected under the stage lights of a New York studio.

Included in the monologue were some jokes at Patrick Mahomes’ expense, as Kelce poked fun at the star QB’s Kermit-like voice, as well as some self-deprecating humor from Kelce, who discussed how a marijuana suspension nearly ended his football career at Cincinnati.

“It just goes to show you — if you smoke weed and you’re bad at school, you can win the Super Bowl twice,” Kelce joked.

The gig on “SNL” was less than a month after Kelce and the Chiefs beat his brother Jason and the Eagles in Super Bowl 57, giving the Kansas City star a chance to gloat a bit in front of Jason and their parents, who were in the crowd.

“If you don’t know, I just won my second Super Bowl,” Kelce said at the start of his monologue. He later made sure to mention that the Eagles led by 10 points at halftime.

Jason was in the crowd alongside their parents, Ed and Donna.

Kelce’s appearance received positive reviews online, as a number of football colleagues, such as Robert Griffin III and Dan Orlovsky, gave their kudos to the tight end.

However, if what Marshall said is true, then Kelce’s monologue may have also helped him secure his current relationship with Swift.
