What happened in Devin Haney, Tank Davis sparring session? Ryan Garcia posts infamous altercation at Mayweather gym

It didn’t take long for the hostility to begin between WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney and top contender Ryan Garcia, who will collide in a superfight at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn on April 20.

Their two-city press tour (New York and Los Angeles) descended into chaos when both teams took turns insulting each other in front of fans and assembled media. But despite the abuse being more potent than fans are accustomed to, it certainly won’t do anything to hurt the promotion.

And Garcia kept things going when the second press conference concluded. Rumors of a brutal sparring session between Haney and WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis have been circulating for some time. Ahead of the New York press conference, Garcia let it be known that former champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. had shown him the footage.

On Thursday evening, Garcia released clips of the sparring on his YouTube channel and then promoted his doing so on social media.

What happened in Devin Haney, Tank Davis sparring session?

It should be noted that Garcia had only posted 1:43 seconds of footage, which has been presented as an assembly edit.

For the vast majority of what we have, Haney is under intense pressure. Davis is on the front foot, hammering the future world champion to head and body while frequently trapping him against the ropes.

Haney attempts to fire back, but he comes second.

Why did Ryan Garcia release Devin Haney vs. Tank Davis sparring session?

The reality is that Garcia has leaked this footage in response to being labeled a “quitter” by Team Haney. In April 2023, Davis scored a seventh-round body shot knockout of Garcia, who rose immediately after the referee administered a 10-count.

Haney likes to remind Garcia about his only professional setback, so his rival is using the sparring session as a counter punch.
