Patriots to meet with NFL draft prospect Drake Maye ahead of Pro Day

After moving on from Mac Jones in a trade that sent the former first-round selection to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a less-than-impressive return, the New England Patriots are once again looking for their franchise quarterback.

On Thursday, nine members of the Patriots regime, including de facto general manager Eliot Wolf and head coach Jerod Mayo, will be taking in North Carolina’s Pro Day in Chapel Hill, and according to the MMQB’s Albert Breer, they’ll be meeting with quarterback Drake Maye ahead of the workouts.

Maye, 21, is a highly-touted prospect who’s been projected to go somewhere in the top three picks in this year’s draft after two All-ACC seasons as the Tarheels’ starter.

In 28 career appearances for North Carolina, Maye threw for 8,018 yards, 63 touchdowns and 16 interceptions while completing 64.9% of his targets.

New England’s brass also met with LSU’s Jayden Daniels, another potential top selection, on Tuesday, so this move doesn’t exactly tip their hand. However, an impressive meeting could lead to Maye landing as the next guy to lead the team out of the tunnel at Gillette Stadium.
