Clayton Beeter’s MLB debut included historic accomplishment

New York Yankees right-handed pitcher Clayton Beeter made his MLB debut during the 7-1 win over the Houston Astros on Friday night, and it included a historic feat.

Beeter came on to close out the game in ninth inning with a 7-1 lead. It’s an ideal situation for a debut. Low leverage situation focusing on simply throwing strikes.

Beeter was efficient as it gets during his debut. His three-pitch inning was the first recorded by a Yankees pitcher since Mariano Rivera did it on June 15, 2003. Beeter became the 10th Yankees pitcher in MLB history to accomplish the feat.

Rivera actually did it twice during his Hall of Fame career. The other time came during the 2001 ALCS. MLB debuts are rarely forgotten by the player it regards, and Beeter’s now has a historic link next to his.
