ESPN computer model predicts outcome of Final Four

The field for the Final Four is set. On Saturday, April 6, No. 1 seed Purdue takes on No. 11 seed NC State in one semifinal matchup. In the other, No. 4 Alabama looks to upset No. 1 UConn for a spot in the national championship.

Fans and college basketball analysts are flooding social media with their predictions, projecting close ball games and thrilling matchups, like the one between NC State’s DJ Burns and Purdue’s Zach Edey.

ESPN’s computer model, however, does not think things will be so close on Saturday night.

According to the matchup predictor, it has Purdue and UConn as heavy favorites to win and meet in the national championship.

ESPN’s matchup predictor gives UConn a 71.6% chance of beating Alabama. It gives Purdue an 89.5% chance of winning.

Those are not great odds for either Alabama or NC State, but that’s been the theme of the tournament for the two underdog programs. We’ll see what happens on Saturday night.
