Dawn Staley had the perfect question for media ahead of Final Four

Ahead of Friday’s Final Four matchup against NC State, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley spoke with the media that featured a hilarious opening statement from the Naismith Coach of the Year.

Staley asked the media about whether you ‘lie down or lay down’ when referencing the grammatical debate between her coaching staff on Thursday.

“I have a brief question because you guys are writers. I just posted a tweet, and we had a long discussion in our coaches meeting. Our players were in the locker room, lying or laying down?” Staley asked. “I told our coaches, someone taught me you lie to get laid, right?”

Staley’s example of how to remember which form of the word is correct had social media buzzing on Thursday afternoon. This is another example of why Staley received the most votes from anonymous NCAA players on which coach they would most like to play for.

Staley will lead the Gamecocks into their four consecutive Final Four appearance and look to win her third NCAA national championship. South Carolina has the opportunity to complete the first undefeated season in program history.

No. 1 South Carolina (36-0) will face No. 3 NC State (31-6) in the Final Four on Friday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
