Is O.G. Anunoby playing tonight? Elbow surgery timeline, return date, latest injury updates on Knicks forward

The Knicks have had a tough stretch of injuries in 2024, but some key players are finally returning.

While Julius Randle is scheduled to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, Mitchell Robinson is slowly returning to form and O.G. Anunoby is nearing a return.

The Knicks acquired Anunoby from the Raptors in December. He made an immediate impact, only to suffer an elbow injury that has caused him to miss almost 20 games. Anunoby rejoined the lineup on March 12 but aggravated the injury in his third game back.

The front office clearly liked what they saw following the acquisition of Anunoby because they made a splash at the trade deadline by acquiring Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks.

When will Anunoby be cleared to return? Here’s the latest on the forward’s injury.

What is O.G. Anunoby’s injury?

Anunoby was sidelined from Jan. 29 to March 11 with an elbow issue.

The 26-year-old was first listed on the injury report with right elbow inflammation. Less than two weeks later, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Anunoby had surgery to remove a loose bone fragment in his right elbow.

The procedure, which was considered minor, was expected to sideline Anunoby for at least three weeks.

Anunoby initially planned to rest and recover, according to Wojnarowski, but the surgery could allow him to be “fully healed” for the stretch run.

The Knicks forward returned to the lineup on March 12 and played three games before aggravating the injury. He’s missed nine straight games since March 16.
