MLB batter props for Saturday, April 6

Bobby Witt Jr. 1.5 total bases: OVER

Witt is no longer a budding superstar — the 23-year-old has firmly established himself among MLB’s best players (and signed the contract extension to prove it). Witt has improved every season of his young career and started 2024 off hot, hitting over .400 so far. While that won’t be a season-long rate, there is no denying he is crushing the baseball right now.

Masyn Winn 0.5 hits: OVER

The 22-year-old shortstop spent last season on the Cardinals roster as a role player. He only played in 36 games and batted a paltry .172, but this season has been a different story. He went through camp and the early part of the season in an open competition with veteran Brandon Crawford. Right now, Winn is hitting the ball and forcing his way into the lineup, as he is batting over .300 and adding a speed element that Crawford doesn’t.

Gunnar Henderson 1.5 total bases: OVER

Henderson has had a solid start to the season but has not hit like he is fully capable. With a plus matchup against Pirates starter Bailey Falter, who gave up two home runs and six earned runs in his first start, Henderson should take advantage to have a multi-hit day.

MLB pitcher player props for Saturday, April 6

Kenta Maeda 3.5 earned runs: UNDER

Kenta Maeda signed a two-year $24 million contract with Detroit this offseason, with the Tigers hoping he would bring a steady veteran presence for a young pitching staff. He was roughed up in his first start, only going 3.1 innings and giving up three home runs and six earned runs. Maeda has a career 3.96 ERA and has always had great control, nasty off-speed stuff and a positive wins above replacement in every season of his career. Going against a weak Oakland lineup that has not scored more than four runs in a game this season will help Maeda bounce back with a strong start.

Steven Matz 2.5 earned runs: UNDER

The veteran left-handeder had a strong first start this season against the Dodgers, going 5.1 innings, giving up only two earned runs. The Dodgers have one of the best lineups in baseball, and Matz did well. In his second start, he faces one of the weakest lineups in baseball in Miami. The Marlins also have three left-handed hitters in their top seven batters, making for an even better matchup for Matz to build on his first start.

Chris Flexen 2.5 earned runs: OVER

Chris Flexen was beat up in his first start facing Atlanta, as he went 4.1 innings but gave up four earned runs, walked three and allowed four hits. Flexen’s era was 6.27 in 2023 and 7.71 in 2024, and it does not get any easier against a Royals lineup that has already scored 10-plus runs multiple times this season.

MLB player props pick of the day for Saturday, April 6

Fernando Tatis Jr. 1.5 total bases: OVER

Tatis is hitting over .300 to start the season, showing off both power and speed, and he gets a favorable matchup against Keaton Winn today. Winn gave up three earned runs in his first start and things won’t get any easier against the potent Padres lineup. Tatis should have a big day and help lead the Padres to a win.
