11 former Patriots due to count as dead money in 2024

The New England Patriots have moved on from several of their own players over the last year or so, saving them some money.

However, at the same time, when some of these players were released/traded/retired the team took on a dead-cap hit, meaning they’ll still be responsible for the guaranteed money that was left on their contract.

At the moment, the Patriots have 11 players who are no longer on the team’s roster (and two who were cut and brought back) but are taking up over $21.4 million combined in salary cap space, according to Over the Cap.

Here’s a look at who’s on that list:

  • WR DeVante Parker – $6.32 million
  • S Devin McCourty – $6.2 million
  • QB Mac Jones – $2.17 million
  • OT Trent Brown – $1.77 million
  • S Adrian Phillips – $1.19 million
  • LB Chris Board – $937,500
  • S Jalen Mills – $625,000
  • DL Lawrence Guy – $500,000
  • RB Pierre Strong Jr. – $356,714
  • QB Bailey Zappe – $323,536
  • LB Ronnie Perkins – $210,154
  • OL Conor McDermott – $175,000

This number will likely increase as we get closer to the start of the regular season and more players get released with guarantees on their deals.
