Where to watch Inter Miami vs Monterrey live stream, TV channel, lineups for CONCACAF Champions Cup second leg

Inter Miami must climb an enormous mountain if they wish to advance in the CONCACAF Champions Cup as they take on Monterrey in the second leg of their quarterfinal matchup.

After collapsing at the end of the first leg at home last week, Inter Miami now travel to Mexico facing a 2-1 aggregate deficit. Not only will they need to engineer a second leg comeback in hostile territory, but they also must overcome the away goals tiebreaker, after Monterrey bagged a pair in South Florida.

Without an injured Lionel Messi, the first leg fell apart after David Ruiz was sent off with 15 minutes to go, and Monterrey capitalized almost immediately, scoring twice to turn the match on its head. In truth, Monterrey were the better side throughout much of the game last week.

However, after seeing time off the bench over the weekend in league play, Messi is expected to return to the starting lineup for this game, giving Inter Miami a boost as they face a must-win scenario on Mexican soil where countless MLS clubs have faltered in years past.

Inter Miami vs Monterrey lineups & team news

After coming off the bench for the second half against Colorado on the weekend, Lionel Messi should be fit to start this match, unless Inter Miami wish to play with fire in a must-win match. Luis Suarez was one of many regulars rested over the weekend, but he should return to the lineup alongside Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

Unavailable for this match is David Ruiz who was sent off in the first leg and will be suspended here. Not fit to participate is Robert Taylor who was injured in the first leg and will miss a few weeks with a hamstring issue. Serhiy Kryvtsov is also out with a hamstring injury, while Federico Redondo needs a few more weeks to recover from his knee problem. Benjamin Cremaschi may be ready for minutes after making the bench over the weekend as he returns from hernia surgery.

Ian Fray is nearing a return from his third ACL tear, but will be brought back very slowly, while Facundo Farias will miss the season with his own cruciate ligament rupture.

Inter Miami projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Callender (GK) — Weigandt, Aviles, Freire, Alba — Gressel, Busquets, D. Gomez — Messi, Suarez, Afonso.

Mexican internationals Luis RomoJesus Gallardo, and Gerardo Arteaga are the pillars in this squad, and they added significant talent in the offseason with the arrivals of Jorge Rodriguez from Estudiantes, Sergio Canales from Real Betis, and Brandon Vazquez from FC Cincinnati.

Along with fringe Mexico international Erick Aguirre and retired El Tri veteran Hector Moreno, this team is bursting with talent to the point where head coach Fernando Ortiz is finding it difficult to fit everyone in. Vazquez is forced to split time with Argentine striker German Berterame up front, especially as fitting both Rodriguez and Romo in the midfield often means sacrificing an attacker.

36-year-old Hector Moreno started the first leg alongside Victor Guzman at center-back, and it will be interesting to see if those two are paired together again, or if Sebastian Vegas is brought back into the lineup.

Inter Miami vs Monterrey prediction, betting odds & lines

  • Score prediction: Inter Miami 2-2 Monterrey
  • To advance: Monterrey (-104 on DraftKings)

Inter Miami have Lionel Messi back, which is a big boost, but having been beaten at home, the task is enormous. With Monterrey holding two away goals in their back pocket, Inter Miami would need to match or beat that result in an extremely hostile environment to even force extra-time and penalties, let alone advance.

Monterrey will know they just need to keep a lid on the match, and they will advance to the next round. That knowledge is critical, even if the greatest player alive is on the pitch.
