IPL centuries list: Full breakdown of all 100s in Indian Premier League history

Despite its high-scoring nature, it is not an easy task to get a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It’s just a 20-over innings and a batsman just needs to keep striking at more than 150 for a better part of the innings to have a chance to reaching the three-figure mark.

And more often than not, middle-order batsmen will have no time to reach a ton.

How many centuries have been taken in the IPL?

In the IPL, this feat has been achieved 86 times across 16 seasons.

Who scored the first century in IPL?

The first-ever century in IPL was scored by then-Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Brendon McCullum, who achieved the feat in the very first match in the league’s history against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). A knock of 158*(73) helped his side put up a score of 222 runs, which his side defended successfully.

Which batsman has scored the most centuries in IPL?

Since then many batsmen have scored centuries across the 16 seasons of the tournament. However, it is former Indian captain Virat Kohli who has the most centuries to his name in IPL, having gone past the 100-run mark seven times. He is followed by “Universe Boss” Chris Gayle who has hit six centuries in the past.

Out of the six centuries that Gayle hit, the most special one was his knock of 175*(66) against Pune Warriors India for RCB in 2013. No bowler was left behind as the West Indies batsman hit every ball out of the park, hitting 13 fours and 17 sixes. It is also the highest-ever score by a batsman a IPL match.

Gayle and Kohli are closely followed by Jos Buttler, who has hit five centuries in his IPL career.
