Cameron Brink won’t be straying too far from home when she makes her WNBA debut.

The Stanford product is keeping her talents in the Golden State, joining the Sparks after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Brink spent her previous four seasons with the Cardinal. In the process, she became one of the most-decorated defenders in recent college basketball history, capturing three straight Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Her presence as a versatile defender capable of marking guards and bigs alike should make her a hit in Tinseltown. And unlike a great many of her draft contemporaries, Brink also has some family ties linking her with the next level.

Brink’s selection garnered praise from Warriors star Stephen Curry. The Dubs icon took to social media to broadcast his support for Brink, who wowed the masses with a faux two-piece black dress and sleek Jimmy Choo x Jean-Paul Gaultier mules on the orange carpet.

Brink made sure to return the favor during her draft interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe. The Stanford star honored Curry, who doubles as a mentor and godbrother to his fellow hooping enthusiast.

Another Curry joined Brink to celebrate her accomplishment, too. Sonya Curry, the mother to sons Stephen and Seth and daughter Sydel, made sure to make her presence felt at her god-daughter’s special day, too.

Much like her son, she, too, received an acknowledgment from a visibly emotional Brink.

Brink’s relationship with the Curry family has been a talking point ever since she made her collegiate debut back in 2020. That should only intensify with more eyes on her in the City of Angels. Here’s what you need to know about the burgeoning Sparks standout.

Cameron Brink connection to Stephen Curry

Brink and Curry go about as far back as one can when one of them is just 22 years old. The two are godsiblings, with Curry’s mother also serving as Brink’s godmother.

They’re not related by blood. But Brink and Curry’s familial connection goes back decades: Brink’s mom, Michelle Bain-Brink, was a hooper in her own right, playing out for Virginia Tech at the same time that Sonya Curry was playing for the Hokies’ volleyball team.

Bain-Brink and Sonya Curry formed a close friendship over the years, even rooming together during their time in Blacksburg. That affinity for one another has stood the test of time, with Sonya Curry being named Brink’s godmother shortly after her birth.

Bain-Brink and Sonya Curry went their separate ways after their college careers. For Bain-Brink, that meant joining Nike as a product manager for Nike. She was pivotal in the creation of Dawn Staley’s signature shoe, the Nike Zoom S5. Sonya Curry, meanwhile, founded a Christian Montessori school in North Carolina.

Nevertheless, their love for one another has remained. That has since transferred to their children. Brink has regularly attended Stephen Curry’s games over the course of his professional career. She also took part in both Stephen Curry and Dell Curry’s basketball camps throughout her adolescence. Brink and Azzi Fudd became the first girl’s players invited to Stephen Curry’s invite-only basketball camp.

“To see her in college, I know she’s gonna keep getting better, honestly,” Curry said back in 2021. “I don’t really have to tell her much now. She’s kind of off and running, so it’s been awesome to watch.”

Cameron Brink WNBA Draft outfit

The Stanford standout looked to be right at home in front of flickering flashbulbs at Brooklyn Academy of Music, taking the floor with a faux two-piece dress accented with black and beige. The prospective No. 2-pick added a little bit of flair to her wardrobe choice, as well, shrouding her left shoulder in a black flower (a la prom).

She capped off her outfit with aplomb, pairing her elegant look with mules from a Jimmy Choo x Jean-Paul Gaultier collaboration.
