NFL mock draft 2024: Predicting Colts’ picks on Day 2

The Indianapolis Colts got things going in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft by selecting UCLA edge rusher Laiatu Latu at No. 15 overall.

While the move to take Latu was somewhat of a surprise, there’s a lot of upside with the selection considering Latu is viewed as the most polished pass rusher in this class.

With that selection already made, here’s a mock draft predicting what the Colts will do with their picks on Day 2 of the draft.

Colts NFL mock draft on Day 2

Trade back with Los Angeles Rams

The first thing the Colts do on Day 2 of the draft is trade back from the No. 46 overall pick to No. 52 in a deal with the Rams. The Colts receive the No. 99 overall pick at the end of the third round. The Rams have a lot of picks and the Colts want more so it this may be a deal waiting to happen.

Trade Details

  • Colts receive: No. 52, No. 99
  • Rams receive: No. 46

Round 2, Pick 52: CB Max Melton, Rutgers

After adding to the edge rusher group in Round 1, the Colts come back around and add to the secondary with a selection of Melton. He may not be the biggest cornerback, but he’s extremely lengthy, athletic and explosive. He can work in press man coverage or in a zone-heavy scheme with some impressive ball skills.

Round 3, Pick 82: WR DeVontez Walker, North Carolina

The Colts need to add some explosiveness to the wide receiver room. Walker has plenty of question marks when it comes to his limited route tree and suspect hands at times. However, he’s a true deep threat on the outside and would complement Michael Pittman Jr. well. There’s a road of development ahead, but it could work.

Round 3, Pick 99: C Tanor Bortolini, Wisconsin

Adding to the offensive line might not be the biggest need considering the entire starting five is returning from last season. But Ryan Kelly and Will Fries are both entering the final years of their contracts, and there aren’t any replacements on the roster. Bortolini is an exceptional athlete with high intelligence who can work at both guard and center.
