Colts give undrafted free agent quarterback $30K guaranteed

The Indianapolis Colts are filling out their undrafted free-agent rookie signings, and it appears to include quarterback Kedon Slovis.

Once a highly regarded prospect at USC, Slovis bounced around to three different programs throughout his collegiate career. That included stops at Pittsburgh (2022) and finally BYU (2023).

What’s somewhat notable about Slovis’ signing is the guaranteed money he received from the Colts following the 2024 NFL Draft.

According to Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star, the Colts are giving Slovis $30,000 guaranteed to sign with the team.

That’s not going to lead the league by any means, and it certainly does not guarantee Slovis a roster spot. But it does show that the Colts had a higher level of interest in signing him following the draft.

The same is true for Kansas linebacker Craig Young, who received a total of $60,000 guaranteed.

It also isn’t clear if the $30,000 that Slovis received is his total guaranteed money or simply a signing bonus. Erickson reported it is the total guaranteed while Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 reported it was a $30,000 signing bonus. It doesn’t make a huge difference either way, but it’s something to note.

Slovis had a sensational freshman season in 2019 at USC where he posted 3,502 yards, 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions. That was Michael Pittman Jr.’s senior season and Drake London’s sophomore season.

He remained the starter in 2020 during the pandemic-shortened season but struggled in 2021. He eventually transferred to Pittsburgh in 2022 and then to BYU in 2023.

At 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds, Slovis ran a 4.55 in the 40-yard dash. He’s expected to compete with Sam Ehlinger and fellow UDFA rookie Jason Bean.
