Caitlin Clark WNBA preseason debut final score, results: Arike Ogunbowale’s game-winner spoils Fever rookie’s debut

Caitlin Clark lived up to the high expectations in her WNBA preseason debut, but it was Arike Ogunbowale who stole the show late with a game-winning 3-pointer.

Ogunbowale, who scored 19 points, made her first 3-pointer of the evening to give the Wings the 79-76 lead with three seconds remaining. Ogunbowale was fifth with 21.2 points per game during the 2023 WNBA season.

Despite the loss, Clark impressed as she finished with 21 points on 6-of-15 shooting, including five 3-pointers. She hit her patented step-back 3s with ease to open the game.

Clark and Aliyah Boston connected a few times throughout the game, teasing how strong of a duo those two can be. Clark did, however, struggle with fouls and turnovers in her taste of WNBA action. She picked up her fourth foul in the third quarter and finished the game with five turnovers.

Clark had an opportunity to tie the game at the buzzer, but her shot didn’t fall. NaLyssa Smith scored 20 and Erica Wheeler had 16 points for the Fever.

Jaelyn Brown was a huge factor for the Wings as she scored 21, tying Clark for the most in the contest. Brown, a rookie, shot 7-of-15 from the field, including 3 3-pointers.

Clark and the Fever host the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, May 9 for their second and final preseason game.
