Broncos defense ranked pitifully low following NFL Draft

With the NFL Draft now behind us, the Scouting Department over at Bleacher Report took inventory of every defense in the league and ranked them from 1-32. Broncos Country will not like where the Broncos land on this list.

The Broncos needed to fill several holes on defense this offseason, but do they really have the second-worst defense in the league? According to Bleacher Report, they do. In addition, the assessment of the defense in the write-up provided is correct.

The Broncos do have one of the best cornerbacks in all of football in Patrick Surtain II, but aside from him, what do they really have now that Justin Simmons is no longer around?

The Broncos have a tackling machine in Alex Singleton and the trade for John Franklin-Myers brings some exciting help to a defensive front that sorely needs it. In the draft, the Broncos selected Johan Elliss in the third round and Kris Abrams-Draine in the fifth. The hope will be that both of those players give the team a lot more than Drew Sanders and Riley Moss did last year as rookies.

The Arizona Cardinals were the only team ranked lower than Denver. For what it’s worth, the Cleveland Browns have the top-ranked defense. The Broncos will have a lot to overcome to move up the ranks defensively this coming season but the team won’t find success in the AFC West if the defense actually turns in a 31st-ranked performance.
