Texans schedule 2024: Dates & times for all 17 games, strength of schedule, final record prediction

The Texans were one of four teams without a prime-time game when last season’s NFL schedule was released. It’s safe to say that won’t be the case in 2024.

Houston not only got a jolt of energy from rookie QB C.J. Stroud, but the Texans went on to surprisingly win the AFC South and reach the divisional round after three consecutive years of futility.

The Texans saw the rest of their roster come together around Stroud, with both Nico Collins and Tank Dell emerging as legitimate weapons while Will Anderson Jr. and Derek Stingley each looked like defensive cornerstones. First-year head coach DeMeco Ryans likewise solidified himself as a long-term answer on the sidelines for the franchise.

GM Nick Caserio didn’t rest on that progress in the offseason, adding Stefon Diggs and Danielle Hunter with the goal of capitalizing on the window presented by Stroud’s rookie contract. The Texans will be playing under the lights much more in 2024, and that means pressure in Houston will be much higher than it was a year ago.

Here is a complete breakdown of the Texans’ 2024 schedule, including dates, start times, and analysis for their slate of games.

Texans strength of schedule

The Texans benefited from a favorable schedule in 2023, as they faced the weak NFC South and two additional last-place finishers in the AFC because of their 3-13-1 record in 2022.

Because the Texans finished first in the AFC South last season their strength of schedule is naturally tougher. Houston’s opponents had a winning percentage of .526 last season, giving the Texans the fourth-toughest schedule in 2024.

The AFC South faces the NFC North this season, and that affords the Texans few breaks with all four teams in the North division hoping to contend for a playoff spot. Houston’s first-place finish earned the franchise matchups with the Chiefs and Ravens, which won’t be easy by any means.

Toughest tests: The Texans have to go on the road to face the Chiefs this season, along with road matchups in Dallas and Green Bay. At home, Houston will try to get over the hump against the Ravens after two blowout losses in Baltimore last year.

Biggest breaks: It’s tough to find light matchups outside of the AFC South for the Texans in 2024. That means Houston will have to take care of business against the AFC South, where Anthony Richardson and Will Levis are hoping to break through and the Jaguars are looking to bounce back after a late-season collapse.

Bottom line: The Texans are counting on improving in 2024, taking a step from winners of a weak division to legitimate AFC contenders. They don’t have much of a choice. While injuries can always flip the balance of their schedule, this slate of games doesn’t afford Houston as many breaks as last season, requiring Stroud to deliver even more consistently than he did in 2023. Fortunately, he proved as a rookie that he isn’t afraid of the biggest moments, and 10 wins could be enough to win the AFC South again.

Record prediction: 10-7
