Who is Mohamed Dabone? Meet the 12-year-old phenom dominating U-18 EuroLeague basketball

Every year seems to bring a new international phenom in the basketball realm.

A few short years ago, the world was introduced to Victor Wembanyama. The 20-year-old from France just terrorized the NBA in his rookie season for the Spurs.

Not every one of these international prospects turns out to be Wembanyama or Luka Doncic. But that doesn’t stop fans from searching for the next best player to follow on social media.

The most recent player to fit the bill? Mohamed Dabone.

The youngster is playing in U-18 EuroLeague for FC Barcelona, and his highlights surfaced on social media. Safe to say fans are feeling the excitement — and perhaps their ages — after seeing Dabone’s numbers.

The Sporting News details all you need to know about the EuroLeague prodigy, including his age, height and draft eligibility.

Mohamed Dabone highlights

This isn’t the first time Dabone has gone viral on social media for his basketball abilities. His highlights surfaced in December 2023, and fans were stunned at his skills, age and height.

Alex Kennedy posted Dabone’s highlights to X in February 2024 after the phenom posted a ridiculous state line in the Minicopa Endesa final.

His most recent highlight tape comes from his first game at U-18 FC Barcelona this season. He scored 21 points in 12 minutes.

When is Mohamed Dabone NBA Draft eligible?

Dabone will be NBA Draft eligible in 2030.

In order to enter the NBA Draft, a player must turn 19 years old in the same calendar year as the draft. Dabone, who was born in October 2011, would be 18 at the time of the 2030 NBA Draft, but he would turn 19 later that year.

That would make 2030 the earliest year that Dabone can enter the NBA. But if he doesn’t develop as quickly, he could decide to hold out and test the waters later.
