Who is Kate Martin? Meet Caitlin Clark’s Iowa teammate ahead of WNBA rookie reunion in Fever vs. Aces

You know Fever star Caitlin Clark. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft had a record-setting college basketball career at Iowa.

Did you know she had a Hawkeye teammate who was also selected in the 2024 WNBA Draft?

Rookie guard Kate Martin was Clark’s teammate for four years at Iowa. The 23-year-old was selected by the reigning WNBA champion Aces with the No. 18 overall pick in this year’s draft.

Just 13 of the 36 picks from the 2024 draft appeared on opening day rosters. But despite the WNBA’s roster squeeze, Martin made the cut for Las Vegas. Earning a spot on the best team in the WNBA is no easy feat, but Martin made it happen.

Not only did Martin make the team, but she has found her way into the Aces’ rotation in two of her first three WNBA games.

Now she’s in for a reunion with Clark when Las Vegas hosts Indiana at 9 p.m. ET Saturday. Get to know the rookie guard who was Clark’s running mate at Iowa.

Kate Martin WNBA stats

Martin has appeared in two of the Aces’ first three games, averaging 20.5 minutes off the bench in her appearances.

The rookie guard made her impact felt in her WNBA debut, tallying three points, five rebounds, three assists and one highlight-reel block to help Las Vegas earn a seven-point win over the Sparks.

While Martin hasn’t been a part of the every-game rotation, head coach Becky Hammon appears poised to use her more often than outside observers expected heading into the season. The Aces tend to rely heavily on their starters, so cracking the Las Vegas lineup is an achievement unto itself.
