Kwesi Adofo-Mensah: ‘Justin Jefferson foundational in everything we do’

The Minnesota Vikings did what they needed to do on Monday when they extended wide receiver Justin Jefferson to a four-year, $140 million contract with $110 million guaranteed. They had been talking to Jefferson for the better part of a year to get the deal done and they made it happen.

It wasn’t just a monumental day for the Vikings but it was for the National Football League as well. With the contract being record-setting, it sent a ripple effect to the wide receivers in the NFL looking for a contract extension.

The Vikings knew they wanted to keep Jefferson and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has been honest about that the whole time, from calling his contract situation a “Champagne problem” to being incredibly direct in saying that trading him was never even a thought. Adofo-Mensah opened the press conference with a quote summarizing how they feel about Jefferson.

“This move was something that was foundational to everything that we’re going to be as a team this season and going forward.”

The Vikings know that Jefferson isn’t just a special player, but also a special person. He makes everyone better in the building and is going to be great for them moving forward.

Now that Jefferson has been extended, they can work on developing the likes of J.J. McCarthy and extending Christian Darrisaw.
