Chiefs sign first-round WR Xavier Worthy

The Chiefs signed first-round pick wide receiver Xavier Worthy on Wednesday, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

Worthy will make $13.79 million over four years after the Chiefs drafted him No. 28 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. It’s fully guaranteed and contains the standard fifth-year option for first-round picks.

With 4.22 speed, Worthy clearly jumps off the screen at you. What’s more impressive, he’s a guy whose speed can be seen and felt by watching him play.  He’s already turned heads and impressed in OTAs. The offensive players are happy to have him. The defense even remarked how much fun it is to see him play in this offense.

The Chiefs traded with the Bills to move from No. 32 to draft Worthy. The Patriots were another team reportedly in hot pursuit of the speedster from Texas.

With Worthy now officially in the fold, the Chiefs have their entire rookie class signed. Now, it’s time to move on to more important things this offseason.

Worthy will help fill a role vacated when Tyreek Hill was sent to Miami. There’s also Marquise Brown to help provide a deep threat. Second-year wideout Rashee Rice will be back as well, although it’s unclear if and how long he’d be suspended by the NFL for his off-field transgressions. The Chiefs expect a “multi-game suspension” for Rice after his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas at resulted in eight charges levied against the receiver.

Patrick Mahomes now has more weapons to play with in 2024 as the Chiefs plan for a threepeat, and Andy Reid has his full playbook at his disposal. Having a guy who runs a 4.22 and another who ran a 4.27 with a quarterback like Mahomes should provide some spark.
