Is Kristaps Porzingis hurt? Celtics big man says ‘I will die out there’ after Game 2 injury scare

Despite a five-week absence that knocked him out for most of the postseason, Kristaps Porzingis was a major difference-maker in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Game 2 wasn’t as magical, but he provided some important defense and scoring off the bench in 23 minutes. Late in the fourth, however, Porzingis fell on the baseline and seemed to tweak his right calf, the same one he injured.

He played with a limp for a couple of minutes before subbing out for the rest of the game. Considering he sat out over a month with a calf injury, the moment felt rather serious when the 7-footer moved gingerly up and down the court.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla and Porzingis commented on the apparent injury post-game, clarifying what happened and how the center is feeling.

Is Kristaps Porzingis hurt?

Porzingis seemed to hurt his right calf on this play late in the fourth quarter of Game 2.

There isn’t any official medical report that states Porzingis is injured, but Mazzulla said the Latvian big is feeling “good” after the game.

Porzingis’ post-game comments reflected Mazzulla’s lack of concern. He said he feels good and doesn’t seem concerned.

Porzingis will have his leg looked at on Monday, according to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss, but he is not planning on missing Game 3 in Dallas on Wednesday.

“I will die out there,” Porzingis said.

Will Kristaps Porzingis play in Game 3?

All signs are pointing to Porzingis playing, likely coming off the bench for the third straight game. He will be evaluated tomorrow, but he and Mazzulla both said things are looking good.

Furthermore, Porzingis said “I will die out there,” when asked about his Game 3 status, so it sure seems like he will do anything to avoid his “revenge game” in Dallas.

It would be the big man’s first game back in Dallas since the franchise traded him. He said he’s not phased, and it’s just another game.
