We are on the brink of the 48th edition of the Copa America, the premier national football tournament involving teams from North and South America, and the 2024 finals mark an historic occasion.

This is because it’s been jointly organized by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and the North, Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation (CONCACAF) for only the second time in its history.

All 10 CONMEBOL members will feature in the tournament, with six teams from the CONCACAF region, making it a 16-team competition.

Grand opening ceremonies, with cultural programmes and performances from prominent singers and artists, have been a prominent feature of Copa America tournaments from the past and much of the same is expected of this year’s event in the United States.

The Sporting News has the key details ahead of the ceremony, including how to watch it across the world and the start time in Atlanta and where you are.

Copa America 2024 opening ceremony performers: Will Shakira be there?

Excitement is building for the Copa America 2024 opening ceremony on June 20. Two days earlier, CONMEBOL announced that multi-Grammy-award-winning artist Feid would be the opening performer at the event.

The Colombian, who has received rave reviews for his Ferxxoapocalipsis Tour of the U.S. and Canada this year, was teased as the star act of the show when CONMBEOL posted an image of social media of a soccer ball and a pair of glasses adorned with double crosses — a signature look of the Reggaeton performer.

However, Feid won’t be the only star lighting up the stage. Rumours persist that Shakira is also performing at the ceremony.

Given that her song “Punteria” is the official anthem of the Copa America, it’s likely she will deliver a live performance of the hit.
