Cardinals superstar surprisingly could be traded; Will 49ers join sweepstakes?

The Arizona Cardinals seem to be in a weird spot and may end up trading away one of their best defensive players.

Arizona has been mentioned in trade rumors on multiple occasions so far this summer and one player who is seen as a candidate is superstar safety Budda Baker, according to Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine.

“There would admittedly be some laughable irony in the Cardinals trading Budda Baker at this point,” Ballentine said. “He sat out OTAs last season as he sought a contract that would make him the highest-paid safety in the league or a trade. Instead, he settled for a $300,000 signing bonus and up to $2.4 million in added incentives into his contract…

“Once Baker got on the field, he showed just how good he is. He earned his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance while racking up 87 tackles in 12 games for the Cards…Trading Baker would create another hole on the defense, but if a team is willing to give up a valuable pick, then it would give the Cards more ammo to address more pressing needs.”

This isn’t the first time Baker has been mentioned as a trade option and the San Francisco 49ers could make some sense as a landing spot. San Francisco has real Super Bowl hopes for the 2024 season and landing someone like Baker only could help take the team to another level.

San Francisco has the sixth-most cap space remaining in football at just over $30 million and certainly could afford Baker.

Baker is one of the best safeties in football so he certainly would be an upgrade. Why not see what it would cost to swing a trade?
