Tom Brady 40-yard dash: NFL legend runs faster time at age 46 than at his NFL Combine debut in 2000

Tom Brady is faster now than he was 24 years ago.

The legendary NFL quarterback is 46 years old. But age is just a number for the seven-time Super Bowl champion, as he showed off ahead of the 2024 NFL Combine.

Brady ran a 40-yard dash for NOBULL, a sportswear company based in Boston, Massachusetts. And the retired signal-caller did not disappoint.

Indeed, his latest 40 time actually beat the time he recorded as a draft prospect at the 2000 NFL Combine, as the league showed in a side-by-side comparison of the two sprints.

How fast did Tom Brady run a 40-yard dash?

Brady earned some redemption 24 years after running the second-slowest 40-yard dash by a quarterback in the 2000 NFL Draft class. Brady ran a 5.28 in 2000, faster than only Louisville’s Chris Redman (5.37).

Fast-forward through two decades, two retirements and seven Super Bowl titles, and Brady hasn’t lost a step. In fact, he’s gained one.

Two members of Brady’s crew clocked him at 5.18 and 5.12. Either mark would beat his previous time by at least .10 seconds.

Before and after the 40-yard-dash, Brady was on the phone with investor Mike Repole, who has a majority stake in NOBULL .

“If you did that 25 years ago, you’d get drafted in the third round,” Repole said after Brady showed him his updated 40 time.

The Patriots drafted Brady in the sixth round with the 199th pick of the draft. He took over as New England’s starting quarterback in 2001.

Is Tom Brady making an NFL comeback?

While Brady is turning 47 in August, he seems to be in great shape — perhaps better than he was during the 2000 NFL Combine.

That being said, there’s no indication that Brady will come out of retirement again. He initially retired in early 2022 but changed his mind less than two months later. He officially retired again after the 2022 NFL season.

Even before Brady attempted his redemption dash, Repole asked if he really wanted to try this so far removed from athletic competition.

“Do you actually even want to do this,” Repole said. “I mean, I understand you haven’t been an athlete in over a year. … If you can sign a medical waiver that we are not responsible for this, I’d appreciate it. Good luck, man.”

Brady not only said he wanted to do the dash, he also plans to do it again next year with an even faster time.
